The Creation Story
You know this story – everything emerging from darkness over six days: light, sky, land, plants, animals, humans, then rest. It’s the Bible’s opening tale, but you don’t need faith to see why it’s captivated humans for millennia.
This isn’t a science lesson – it’s tackling the big questions we all have: Why do we exist? What makes us special? The story gives a striking answer: humans are created “in the image of God” – we have something divine within us. This means we have unique value & dignity, we’re caretakers of the planet, and life needs balance between work and rest.
Whether you see it as truth, poetry, or myth, Genesis has influenced everything – art, law, human rights. This idea that every person carries the divine image has fueled movements for equality and environmental protection. It says your existence has meaning and you’re part of something bigger.
